No Evidence of previous employment

I am about to apply for PR but want to make sure that my form is 100%. I plan to
apply under business class as self employed. I have owned and run my own business
successfully for the past 13 years, of this I have proof. But I had a further 3 jobs
in management in a totally different field prior to going out on my own. My first
two employers went into liquidation in the early nineties. Given the length of time
since I resigned from the third, I suspect they could at best confirm my employment,
or even give me a good reference, but are unlikely to have a detailed list of the
duties I performed. Will these circumstances lose me points or predudice my
application in some way?

If you are applying under the Business category then details of your pre-business
employment are not that important. You need to prove that you meet the definition of
self-employed as per Immigration Act and Regulations, that you have the business
experience, sufficient funds, etc., particularly in your field of self-employment.
Bear in mind that self-employed class is the toughest one to qualify and if
processing officer will interpret your experience as an entrepreneur and you will not
meet the definition of self-employed then your application will be processed under
Entrepreneur category - in such case you will have to meet stricter financial
requirements and other criteria depending from the destination Province.

If these positions are unrelated to the intended business plan in your present
application, then it is likely that failure to document the positions
adequately would not have a significant impact. You should seek the
availability of any substitute documentation, however, which may help to at
least clarify your work history.
