Default New Software for Immigration Agents?

Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone knows about the new software that the immigration
agents have. I frequently travel to the US from Canada and I am a US Citizen living
in Canada as a landed immigrantl. Last time, just last week, when I went through
immigration, the agent pulled up my information on their computer....and knew that I
was a landed resident. As far as I've been aware, they've not been able to do this in
the past. Does anyone know when this started and how much information they have
access to?

Just wondering.

Are you asking about Canadian or US immigration officers? Canadian officers had
always access to your files for many years since computer database system was
implemented. But recently US and Canadian immigration systems were linked, so
Americans can also have some access (although I have no idea how extensive) to
your data. Also Americans now have some access to RCMP database and Canadians to
FBI database.

Can you say more about your exprience? That is the first time I have heard of. Were
you be land or air?

Does this mean Canada will start tracking the entrance record for PR now? As far as I
know they did not do that in the past, that is why they solely depend on what you say
in your citizenship application. I guess that process changes.

I was at the Ottawa Airport. I think something has changed, the access they have. I
have gone through without my passport a couple of times, and instead of the
Immigration agent interigating me, they had me go to the immigration office, and then
I had to explain why I did not have my travel documents and explain my status in
Canada. (Airport agent kept my passport by mistake and I did not realize it until I
was in Ottawa). About tracking the days, I have asked the Canadian Immigration agents
and they said there is not a way to get a listing, I'm sure they must have something
that tracks the days. I just keep track myself.

Anyhow, I've not noticed anything different coming through the US side, just
entering Canada.

Thanks Andrew, are you sure they don't have something else that is new?

Just wondering.

If you remember, if you cross from USA to Canada as a US citizen at airport, you will
be required to report to airlines, but I don't know why. I remember seeing all
americans lined up to put their name down, and I didn't.

Canada can not track you absent days exactly, because there is no exit record in
USA/Canada. They only know when you entered, but not when you left.

Tell me why you asked for tracking days. Did you try to prove something. Did you get
a list of entering but not a list of existing?

It is always nice to investigate somebody's special case, so we can learn the system
in a blackbox.

Meg,

The only thing different is that we are now in the past 9-11 era, nothing will be the
same again. Before most statements from people entering country were taken ay face
value, although not from everyone. Now the number of people being randomly (and not
only randomly) checked deeper is unfortunately much larger than it was just 6 or so
months ago...

Ah, I see.

It was just different. Lots of things seem different these days. Or else, I'm more
aware, could be both.

Thanks,

Meg

Hi,

The reason that I track days is because I frequently travel to the US on business,
and I need to be sure I'm not beyond my 183 days. I've only been here since Nov 2000,
and would eventually like to apply for citizenship and so I just track my days in and
out of the country.

That's all.

Don't forget that the airlines are now required to give USINS "advance passenger
flight information" That is why on flights to US the airlines are requesting Name,
DOB, Citizenship at check in. This could be the new system that folks are talking
about as it electronically transferred to USINS prior to plane arriving in US or in
the case of Canada before passenger reaches US pre clearance.

In the last 2 months. All foreign carriers as well as US arriving from overseas now
have to forward the information to USINS
