Default Need help with filing of Income Tax

I'm trying to do my mom's income tax on www.quicktaxweb.com. She has been a
non-resident for a little while and received an NR4 slip (Canada Pension
Plan Disability Benefits). How do I enter the information that's on the
slip using "quicktaxweb"? It has a long list of slips but I can't seem to
find an NR4 slip. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Excerpt from Quicktax help:

Did you receive an NR4 or NR4-OAS information slip?
Human Resources Development Canada sends an NR4 or NR4-OAS information slip
to all individuals who receive certain income from Canada (such as Old Age
Security pension and Canada Pension Plan benefits) and who have an address
outside Canada.

If you are a factual resident of Canada who has received an NR4 or NR4-OAS
information slip, include the amount in your income and write "factual
resident" at the top of page 1 of your return.

The problem might be that the simple on-line Quicktaxweb filing
program is available only for certain filers and one restriction, I
believe, being that the filer must be resident in Canada for that tax
year.
There's a series of questions at the beginning to determine if one's
taxes can be filed online with Quicktaxweb. The poster might have
missed or misunderstood it.
I don't believe the online Quicktax program has the capability of
letting the filer add a statement of explanation -- such as he/she is
now living in Canada. It's designed for straightforward returns.
Don't think she can do it by E-File, either.

You are correct. we had to do our first years tax the paper route.
Only after that were we allowed to "e-file"

Quick tax does though have an option to PRINT the forms for the paper route.
It includes addresses of where to send also.

One thing about the QuickTax on-line filer is that you can get it to do
all the math for free ... that's providing you are the average working
stiff and don't have business or complicated stuff to file.
If you pass the iniitial questions you're okay.

You keep the paper form beside you and fill it in as you go along. They
take it right through and recap it all.
What you don't do is press the final buttons for filing 'cause that's
when they ask for credit card info to file it for you.

But even that's quite cheap ... about $20 bucks or so. (They also had
some deal that if you don't have a refund coming it was done for free.
And they did at one time have free filing for people who earned under a
specific amount. I haven't seen the website this year.)

I did the telephone E-File one year but they only give you a few
moments to respond to the taped questions or they chop the connection
and you've got start from scratch so it takes some getting used to.

Electronic filing generally brings the refund much quicker -- within
days -- where snail mail filing from Ontario means it has to go to
Newfoundland for processing.

AFIAK you can print and send the forms the program produces without filling
in stuff twice.

I buy the program from Van pelts about $30 less any rebates. Least that way
i can save the information to disk and use again the next year.

The website asks for WAY too much personal information for Intuits own use
(intuit market quick tax)

It will only print out or make an E-file if you pay. It's your option
of whether you want a printout for mailing or the E-file you send
through CCRA's web site. (I forgot that final step)

All the information is on a copy for your hard disk.

They do not ask for any more information than if you went to a guy in
an HR. Block booth at the mall; and I'd trust the security of being
one of thousands on a computer over some guy who's been unemployed
maybe for months and took a quick course for that particular seasonal
work.

Well, isn't that odd.
I live in St. Catharines -- moved down here three years ago -- and saw
that my return went to Newfoundland so just assumed all of Ontario was
doing that ....not just Peterborough and St. Catharines. Wonder why
just those two spots.

The page they tried to get me to go through to file (and you dont need to go
through this page)
does ask for personal information and does include a section that says they
may use it for marketing !!!
They wanted SIN, Valid Email, D.O.B., VALID POST CODE etc.etc.
I took time to read thier privacy statement. which in short form says they
wont pass the information on but will use it if they want. ?????

I never fill in those marketing pages when buyinf something online....
never did find one that made it a condition of sale, either.

Those particular items are requiired on all tax returns or on CCRA's
web filing system (e-mail). I believe paper forms received in the mail
already have it attached on a sticker or in the bar coding somewhere.

Thanks. Yes, all mine. I'm a retired journalist/editor and building
personal web pages is what keeps me busy in the long months between
golf seasons.

The page on the website was VERY misleading unless you took the time to go
through all the small print and gave the average user the impression that it
was required both to file AND for Q.T.
