Hey,

I have reading up on this self employed route....If my husband qualified as a self employed coach what would i need to do then? Would i be able to work or just go there with him intitially?

Also...if he went down that route would there be anything from stopping him just getting any old job when he arrived or would he only be allowed to be self employed?

Off the top of my head I am not sure. I need to have a read through the self-employed stuff and get back to you.

If he qualifies, with all family members as accompanying, you get PR and can work.

Also...if he went down that route would there be anything from stopping him just getting any old job when he arrived or would he only be allowed to be self employed?
So long as there is no conditions on the PR permit, he can do what he likes, it is not employer specific. The new SE program does not have any specific requirements after you 'land' and take up PR.

I would have my doubts that the OP would be considered "world class" in coaching to qualify for self-employed.

Relevant experience is defined as:

* participation at a world-class level in cultural activities or athletics
* farm management experience or
* self-employment in cultural activities or athletics. Please consult the Related Links section at the bottom of this page for a list of activities that qualify. You will also find a link to definitions of terms that apply to self-employed persons.

Coaching does not specify world class, just being self employed.

Maybe you should read this re: self employment.

6.15. Self-employed (R88)

a) a self-employed person, other than a self-employed person selected by a province, means a
minimum of two years of experience, during the period beginning five years before the date of
application for a permanent resident visa and ending on the day a determination is made in
respect of the application, consisting of.............

(ii) in respect of athletics,
(A) two one-year periods of experience in self-employment in athletics,
(B) two one-year periods of experience in participation at a world class level in athletics,
or
(C) a combination of a one-year period of experience described in clause (A) and a oneyear
period of experience described in clause (B),

So if he has (A) then (B) is irrelevant to him anyway?

parker14 is an unknown quantity at this point

Either way I would recommend applying yourself and not through an agent. The amount of work you will have to do is about the same anyway (lots).
Save yourself the fee.

Hiya

He defo covers A on the descriptions and then some! As far as i'm aware from what i have been reading today a coach doesn't have to be 'world class'

I think you only have to qualify as one of those don't you?

He has the highest possible level of Ice hockey coaching, a very high FA level of soccer coaching and also Field hockey coaching. He has also worked as a Hockey instructor at one of the best hockey schools in Canada! I'm really hoping this covers it!
