Unhappy Migrating to US or Canada

I am qualified Mental Health Nurse with my present role as a Deputy Ward Manger in Britain. My family and I are looking at relocating to the US or Canada for better life and most especially for the childrens' sake. We have made few research which has actually been discouraging. To be qualified to work in the US, I have been told I have to be "general nurse trained" before sitting the NCLEX exams. My search is now moved to Canad, but I do not seem to be getting anywhere with this as well. I have a BSC in Mental Health Nursing and am willing to sit any exam which will qualify me for working in Canada. Any advise will do please.

I don't know whether you might find some info on the Jobs-Nursing forum:
http://britishexpats.com/forum/forum...sprune=-1&f=72

but there's definitely some info in the Wiki here:
http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Nursing-Canada

and I definitely know there are people on here who have emigrated to work in nursing so hopefully someone will be along soon!

Not a good recipe for successful immigration. Don't be surprised if you are disappointed. Canada nor the US are no better or worse than the UK, just different. The cultures are quite different and suit some, not others.

The most successful immigrants I have met came over for change for the sake of change. Nothing in particular wrong with their old life, they just wanted to try something different.

There are I think it is 4 provinces that accept RMN so a lot will depend on where you want to live in Canada. If you do a search both in the Canadian and Nursing forums you should find the links to the provinces that accept RMN

Quick heads up!

Focus your research on the provinces British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba. These all recognise UK RMN training, the others 'do not'.

If any of these areas suitable/ or appeal, next step is to approach registration bodies (think NMC) for whichever particular province.

College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia (CRPNBC)
http://www.crpnbc.ca/

College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA)
http://www.crpna.ab.ca/

Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS)
http://www.rpnas.com/

College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM)
http://www.crpnm.mb.ca/

Once you've had your credentials assessed, you will be granted eligibility to sit the registration exam (you need this) at a later date, you can then begin to apply for positions.

Best of Luck
