medical - hepatitis
Does anyone know if there would be a problem with the immigration medical
exam if I had hepatitis 35 years ago and have, since then, been quite
healthy? Thanks for any input.

Re: medical - hepatitis
It was never really decided at the time. I was put in isolation in the
hospital for 2 weeks. I was told not to donate blood. For a few months I
got tired easily, but I've been fine since. I don't donate blood, but it's
never been flagged as an issue anywhere since - employment, medical exams,
etc. I don't even know the name of the Dr. involved. It was a long time
ago.

Hello Paul,
I am not am immigration consultant or any specialist. However, I had
experience in medical refusals so I may be able to add some thing
here. First you need to specify what kind of Hepatitis you had, was it
A or B (I hope it was never C as the survival rate for C is marginal).
If you had A then it should not be a problem. However, with B you need
to have some concerns. With some cases of B, the virus is still
resident in the body. What I should suggest you is to have some
specific hypatitis blood tests and determine if the virus is still in
incubation. If the test is positive then you need to ask the doctor
that in such cases what are the chances that you have potential to
transfer the Hypatitis B virus to any other person through either
blood or any other means. If the doctor says that there are chances,
then you might be in troubble. Because the immigration medicals
require any person not to possess any threat of spreading disease to
any one in Canada.
So the best thing is to get your self tested by an independent doctor
and know your exact situation before you apply for immigration.
Thanks

I had Hep C (treated successfully) all they did was ask for a supplement
from the doctor to prove no major liver damage as well as in Canada
Ultrasound of my liver (at my cost). CIC let me know my medicals were
satisfactory. I also just got my letter that allowed me to apply for
OHIP which I did without a problem. I'm sure it won't be an issue

Re: medical - hepatitis
Thanks to those who responded. I'm going to get a blood test through my
local doc for my own information. The application was submitted to Buffalo
in January. We have quite a long wait ahead of us.
