MBA from India
This is regarding the MBA degree from India. Typically the MBA program
degree
in India is called a "Post Graduate Diplima in Management". The
diploma certificate even from the top schools does not actually say
"masters" in business administration. Such is not the case when it
come to other studies
like engineering or science or arts where the certificate actually
says
"masters degree"
But in India it is well accepted as MBA (a masters level, post
graduate studies)
Does any of you any idea/experience of how CHC New Delhi treats it?
Will they
get 25 points for MBA or not?

Re: MBA from India
They will probably not consider it to be equivalent to a master's degree. I am doing a Graduate Diploma here in Canada now and that is not at all equivalent to a Master's degree - I would have to do one more year of school to get an MBA. It also depends on how many years education you have.
You should keep in mind that the demands for educational qualifications can be pretty high in the west when it comes to indian degrees. Many universities in the US, for example, do not recognize the BCom as a bachelor's degree and a few even go so far as to say that a Master's degree from India is equivalent to a Bachelors in the US, unless you went to Stephens' or Xaviers or something.
For the sake of your application I would go with the lower estimate.

Bhaskar:
I had a PGDM too ... for my CSQ, the interviewer considered that as equivalent to an MBA. Also, my US employer considered it to be equal to an MBA (my credentials had to go through an education evaluation for my H1B).
So, from my personal experience I can say that PGDM is counted as an MBA. You should also check your institute's prospectus. Most Indian institutes have their PGDM certified by UGC or the Govt of India to be equivalent to an MBA. This is because by Indian law only universities (or deemed universities) can award Bachelors or Masters degrees. And it is in the institute's best interest to ensure that its alumni are rated on par with MBAs.
All the best! Try to get all the mileage you can from your education.

Re: MBA from India
Hi Bhaskar:
I too have a MBA from India,i had to attend a personal interview at
LA and landed in Toronto in Jan 04. I was awarded 25 points, I guess
for immigration purpose they are looking at the the total years of
formal education & a Masters Degree irrespective of the country. My
Degree is an University MBA not PGDBM & I have 17 years of formal
education from India. But when it comes to job & studies in Canada or
the USA the MBA will b quivalent to bachelor's Degree in Business
Administration.
Thanks,
AKJ

Thanks all of you for your feedback...unfortunately quebec has its own
selection criteria different from the federal.

Re: MBA from India
I have a PGD in Journalism and Masscom from a reputed college in india(and well recognized by the US). when i got my ba+pgdjmc, through WES, it was considered equivalent to BS in journalsm in the US. that is 4 years of college ed. so it depends on how some authority such as WES evaluates your qualification.
without this evaluation, i couldnt have applied for H1 or join a US college for graduate course (i would have had to take enough courses first in undergrad level to be on par with other grad students...)
