Default Living in Canada, getting married in UK

Hello all,

I'm looking for some guidance. I recently got engaged to my Canadian boyfriend. We are in the process of getting my PR, hopefully that will be granted before Christmas.

We are planning to get married in England in 2015 but I have started reading bits and pieces about how my fiancé will have to get a visa and we will have to get a certificate of some sort in order to do this?

Anyone have any advice or experience would be welcomed!

Before Christmas keep dreaming Im assuming you are applying under the common law spousal route as you are not married yet. providing you cohabited for 12 months or over then you would be eligible.

You have read my post wrongly.

As per my signature, I sent off my common-law application back in May, so yes, providing everything goes some what smoothly, I will have PR before Christmas.

I was asking about getting married, not PR.

No I didnt read it wrong. You submitted your application in May and I assume you are doing an OUTLAND application. To get the COPR forms within 7 months I think might be a stretch as others have waited far longer.
London is quoting 10 months on the CIC website

Okay, fair enough, no need to make a joke out of me. Like many others I have a lot riding on receiving my PR in good times and there isn't really anything to LOL about.

Anyways. Thanks for your response, I will prepare for 10 months, not 7

Am I reading your post right that you're asking about what kind of visa or paperwork your fiancé needs to get married in the UK? If so, I'll move this thread as this is only for Canadian immigration and I'm not sure you'll get the answers you're after here, but do let me know if I've misunderstood.

And FWIW, lots of people on the forum have got their PR well within six months recently, so don't worry about it just yet. Although processing times have increased a little bit recently (only by a month or two though), you should still get it by Christmas imo.

Good luck.

If you want to get married in the UK, you will need to view this website for instructions on what you need to do and what visa your fiancée will need. Your fiancée will need to obtain a visa to get married in the UK, I believe.

You can apply online for the visa: http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/

Does it matter that my fiancé has previously used his 1 year work holiday visa in UK? Or is this visa different?

That was a working holiday permit - this is a visitors visa for the purpose of getting married. 2 very different things.

I'd say she has a good shout of being done by November.
