likelihood of changes to the point system in june?
#1
ive read on the forum that there are to be changes to the immigration system in june.what i want to know is does anyone think the points system will become a bit more lenient? i read jason kenney said that he was going to make it more fair and there was more points going to be given for first language and education level and he also mentioned upping numbers to 280,000 and i also read one of his advisors recommending numbers should be 350,000 a year to help the economy and growth.does anyone know if these planned changes are happening in june? we are 1 point short at the moment but if these changes happen to the system as he mentioned in june then we would gain an additional 5 points so we'd be fine but obviously i dont know if any of these plans are set in stone or if it was just something in the distant pipeline.
thanks

Changes are definitely coming to the point system, but it may make it tougher for a lot of people. From what I understand, more points will be given for language ability (20 instead of 16 for the first language) but less for age (points declining at age 35), and less for work experience (max of 15 rather than 21).
The idea of it all seems to be that they wish to attract younger workers, and also put more emphasis on language ability so that those without any English and French at all are unlikely to have enough points. So I don't know how this will affect you? Hope it gives you the extra point you need, and that your occupation is still on the list when it changes.

I doubt there will be an official announcement until 1st July 2011.
But if you are relying on FSW1 - please also be aware that there may be a revision to the in-demand list, so there is no guarantee that your NOC code will still be on the list.
Personally I suspect that changes to the list will be minimal, since the current list has only been out 1 year, but no way of knowing for sure until 1st July 2011.
So fingers crossed for you

Wayne.

If my job is taken from the list in july, can i still apply to emigrate if my job is not on the in demand list but is still classed as a skill 0 or A job on the noc list (excuse me if i got the skill letters wrong) if so what route would i apply and will the waiting times be longer than the 13 mnths they recommend now on the sw visa?surely every person who moves to canada isnt on the in demand list?
Thanks for the replies

You can check statistics on which visa category people apply under online, but they may be sponsored by family, or investors, or have a job offer, etc - 'the list' of eligible occupations is only one route (and there are over 50 available!).

Any chance of a recommendation on likely visa routes to research into if that situation arises?
Thanks

Best thing to do if you are not sure is do a free visa assessment from a recommended immigration consultant.
Good luck.
