Hi,
We are planning to land in March 3rd week. Our port of entry is Niagarafalls. Can anyone
please share their landing experience? Can you suggest some tips like how to list the
items on b4 form? Do we have to list small items like pens, note books, scissors etc.

Hi:
At the time of landing, immigrants should provide a duplicate list of all personal and
household effects which they are bringing into Canada or intend to bring into Canada in
the future.
The list should set out specific information about each of the personal effects to be
brought into Canada including the make, model, serial number and a reasonably accurate
estimate of the value of the good.
The immigrant should prepare two lists - goods in possession of the immigrant at the time
of landing and goods to follow. The customs officer will note on the record of landing
that there are 'goods to follow". This will enable the immigrant to bring the specified
goods into Canada duty-free at any time after landing.

I do not think CCRA would have the time to look at a pair of scissors, unless, it is made
of diamond and gold or something similar. Well, I meant has high value.
Niagara Falls has two points of entry. Rainbow Bridge and other that becomes 405 on the
Canadian Side. If you are landing with all house hold stuff, use Buffalo/Fort Erie or the
405 Crossing. Avoid Rainbow bridge. Busy and you would get in to the town of NF on the
Canadian Side.
Do NOT land in a rental vehicle. I am told that as a landed immigrant, you are expected to
drive a vehicle that is registered in Canada, with some exceptions. If you are using your
own vehicle to land, you would have to import it.

I simply listed boxes as 'Kitchen Utensils', "Clothing' without getting into specifics
of each item.... Things like VCR's, Camera's Computers should be listed with serial
numbers etc.

Also, please make sure the list shows the value in Canadian dollars. It saves time,
otherwise customs will have to convert the currency for each item on list, AND the total.
Small items of a similar description can be grouped together on the list, such as
"kitchenware" or "clothing" or "toys".
Please note that goods used for a COMMERCIAL PURPOSE do not qualify for duty- and tax-free
importation for settlers (or anyone for that matter). A prime example is a dental chair,
which is normally considered to be commercial goods. Even when duty free, commercial goods
attract 7% GST as a minimum.
Also, please note that UNLESS FUMIGATED, a used mattress is prohibited from importation.
Why, I don't know. And few people bother to fumigate them, fewer bother to bring them. I
have not heard of anyone actually having one seized, but why take the risk?

generated for one, usually. The goods to follow is more important, because a B15 receipt
number will normally be written on the reverse of an IMM1000 (Landed Immigrant document)
along with the inspector's stamp, to prove that the goods to follow were declared.
