Re: Landing in Canada to activate VISA
Hi James
My husband landed a couple of weeks ago and he took a list of what we were taking with us, we have put down everything that we might take with us. This was a simple list done in excel with estimated values against each item. The customs officer said this was fine and just stamped it! I believe you can take off the list but you can't add to it.
If you are returning in most instances you can ask for your list to be stamped when you re-enter but we were advised that you should have a list prepared just incase they insist on it.
Kevin also had to provide proof of funds on landing again this was all very straight forward, they just looked at the bank statement and then asked him to sign his COPR form and welcomed him to Canada. All over in less than 30 minutes.
Best of luck, just give me a shout if you need any more information or want to see the list we provided.

Did you fill out the form as well? I'm not sure what to put on it as we haven't even decided on a shipping company yet... Should we still fill it out as best we can, or just take the spread-sheet with details of goods to follow/acompanying?
Regards,
James.

Re: Landing in Canada to activate VISA
Hi,
Im also interested in this goods to follow list.
My situation is that I am currently applying for PR, my wife is Canadian. I am studying for an MBA at a British University. I hope to have PR approved later this year, then I would also land in Canada to make things official before medicals run out. On return I would be looking to apply for jobs - but there is a possibility that I get a really good job offer in the UK or elsewhere in Europe, in which case Canada would wait for a few years (PR obligations satisfied as im outside of Canada with my Canadian spouse). In this case I wouldnt have a clue what goods were to follow, I may not end up in Canada for years.
I know some responses say then dont apply for PR until you know what youre doing, but I need the option. My wife is Canadian, my son has a Canadian passport and if a good job opportunity comes in Canada when im finished my MBA then were there, but thats not guranteed....
Any ideas - do I just list every item I may potentially ever own to cover myself in future?
Thanks for any advice..

Re: Landing in Canada to activate VISA
bump!
Any one with any experience of this?
Is there a problem with initially landing and goods to follow potentially 'following' a long time after? Eg there is no time limit is there?
Cheers.

As I understand it you do not have to actually have a list as your wife would be able to list all items as her goods to follow when and if you decide to reside in Canada.
As I read the regs the PR can land and declare goods accompanying and the returning Canadian resident can list everything when you land as a family.
At least that is what we are planning to do when we land and just explain to the IO what we are doing.
Does anyone see any flaws in my plan???
