Landed!!!
Hi everyone
I finally landed yesterday in Pearson Intl. Airport, Toronto. The process was really smooth. After they took my picture I was conducted to a room where a guy (really young, he told me he is a college student) asked me for funds and I showed him a print of my account gotten from the internet. I did not show him the cash I had with me. Then I signed the form and he stapled the last copy to my passport and said: Welcome to Canada, welcome home.
Then I went to a room where 2 very polite guys gave me a lot of info about documents and Canadian culture.
Then I went to customs where they stamped my goods to follow list. They did not even see my bags or ask for a list.
Today I went to apply for SIN and they gave me a receipt. Then I changed 100 USD and they gave me 130.95 at TD Bank. They said I needed the plastic SIN to open an account. Then I went to the Scotia bank and they accept the receips of the SIN so I set an appointment to open an account tomorrow
First good and bad Impressions:
- Very nice people and very nice surroundings.
- Suprised to see some beggars on the streets
- Excellent transportation system.
- Good prices in food and clothes
- High prices in TVs Refrigerators and computer parts (Of course I just have visited 2 stores)
I ll kep you updated
Very happy to be in Canada.

They did not ask me to show SIN# when I opened my first bank account in TD
bank. It took around 1 month to receive the SIN# card.

You could tell me the location of the SIN office? Is it walk in or do I need to make an appointment and what documents do I need to bring? Last favor - do they send SIN cards to US addresses?
Thanks a lot.
Thanks a lot.

Get used to it!! You can't walk around any large city in Canada
without getting asked for spare change. Quite frankly its a nuisance.
>- Excellent transportation system.
Is Toronto the only large city where the subway doesn't go right to
the airport?!

Re: Landed!!!
You can go to any full service HRDC (look in blue pages for locations). You
need to bring a document of your status in Canada. i.e. maple card, work
permit, visa status showing you landed. No they will not mail it to the US.
One of the questions on the application is asking for your permanent address
in Canada. If you have a friend whose address you can use, then your friend
can mail it to you in the US.

Hi Allinall,
Congratulations on your landing in Canada and wish you the very best
of luck in settling in the country.
Could you elaborate on the PR card part of the landing process - did
you have to fill in any forms, did they take your photograph, were you
asked to collect it or would it be mailed to your Toronto address, etc
etc.
Thanks in advance,

Having landed through Lansdowne, Thousand Islands Ontario on Sunday afternoon I can elaborate on my experience - the agent was mainly concerned with checking the passport details and that the photos were correct likenesses. They took a photo of my son as his original one was not properly stuck to the form -I think they thought it would not go through the various machines with some sticky glue around one side. My wife and I were asked whether I had ever been arrested or convicted and I had to answer the same question for my kids. I signed the forms to confirm the answers and that the addresses were correct and, apart from stating (not proving) funds that was it. Customs were not interested as my shipment was coming through commercial carriers and I was free to enter!
