Me Again....

Are normal Passport Picys (the £3.50 std ones from the m'c), ok to send off with your passport. It just seems they are quite "specific" about picy size etc....Should I go to a photographer?

Who knows....there probably the same size. But at this stage we couldn't be arsed with any problems and did what they said.......it was the matt paper they wanted that bugged us.
Anyhow we rang a photographer who did the photo's as requested and he charged us £20 for 6 photo's each as per CHC instructions.......Small price to pay in the scheme of things

My experience: I took our photos with my digital camera and Photochopped them to the correct dimensions. There were no complaints. I even have several spare for the day when I land in the 'pokey' and need a mug shot.

However, Immigration lost the ones I handed over at Pearson when we landed and I had to go to Kitchener to get them done by a nice lady at CIC there. My camera is much nicer than hers by the way.

I've always used the 'Photo Me' booths that print four copies of the same passport photo on one piece of paper. No problems so far.

However, as noted, if you want to be sure you've got it all correct then it's a small cost to go to a photographer, relative to the other costs of emigration.

We had no issues with the standard photo booth photos we sent in with our passports, they were returned with visas in and the necessary paperwork with photos attached no problems.
Don't know anything about the matt paper thing but as i say there were no complaints.

My brother and I took our photos with a digital camera, downloaded them to our computer, resized them to CHC dimensions in Adobe Photoshop and then printed them onto 160g Matt Paper.

I did what madmac did, I also did my own for my new passports yesterday, took them to the post office and they checked them with their templates and passed them. As long as you use the info for the photos they give you you can take your own with a digital camera and use photo paper. Although the first time I took them in they asked for the DPI (dots per inch) and they were 720, they wanted 1200 minimum so I did them at 1800... apparently the new passports photos are identical in size and such as the CIC want.

Incidently, do Immigration take another photo of you when you go through 'landing'? Just a thought, as I can imagine looking dischevelled upon arriving after sitting on a plane for x amount of hours and then having a really bad picure on or PR card! (NOT GOOD!)
Or do they use the pictures you sent them when they asked for PPR? (That one was a much better mug shot)

As far as I can remember we didn't get any photos taken at Pearson. They take your big scary form and the attached photos (and in my case, lose them).

The last thing you will care about after the flight is your looks.

Surely you want to look bad on the PR card so the immigration officer will be able to compare the photo to how bad you look after a typical flight when you're standing in front of him after a holiday ?
