Default Import a car to Canada from USA

Hi, I have some questionsa about importing car to Canada from USA.
1. Which is better, sell a car in US or import the car to Canada?
2. If I choose to import the car, do I have to export it from USA. If I could not do
it, do I have trouble to re-export to USA again later?

Thanks

It depends on the car. See http://www.riv.ca

I presume you are referring to emigrating to Canada and bringing your car with you.
If you are unable to import the car legally, then you will be expected to return the
car to the USA as quickly as possible and not drive it except to your destination and
back again to the border.

My car can be legally imported into Canada. I just concern if it is worth to do that.
I heard the car price is cheaper in Canada than US. in addition, for my understanding
, I can import a car to Canada without exporting it from US. But, will it be a
problem, when I try to re-export to US from Canada?

Thanks

If the car is in good condition -- and especially if it has no body rust -- it might
very possibly be worth importing.

In any case, keep in mind that it might be a hassle getting parts for the car in
Canada (depending on the make/model/year and how similar the car is to the model sold
in Canada that year). Also, some new car warranties might be difficult to make
claims on in Canada; if the warranty doesn't explicitly say it's equally valid in
both the US and Canada, some dealers might insist on payment up front for warranty
repairs (and you would then have to submit the bills to the car maker's US office for
reimbursement).

Do you mean, you expect to be able to bring the car into Canada without notifying
US Customs?

Technically, this is not true. US customs regulations do require that any vehicle
being permanently exported from the US must be presented at a US Customs office for
inspection before it leaves the US -- and that the title (or a certified copy) must
arrive at the customs office at least 72 hours prior to export. I've heard
conflicting reports about whether this regulation is enforced in practice, and about
what (if anything) happens if the regulation isn't followed.

If you mean, will you get into trouble when you bring the car back to the US because
you didn't tell US Customs about it when you took it to Canada? Maybe, maybe not,
but why take the risk?

If you mean, will you have trouble re-importing the car to the US after it's been
imported to Canada, I think the answer is that US Customs really won't care, and
whichever state you move to and register the car in will ignore the car's sojourn in
Canada as soon as DMV officials realize that the car was orig- inally built for, and
sold in, the US.
