immigration when wife is canadian
Hi
My wife was born in canada, but moved to uk shortly afterwards,
We have found out that she and her/our children are entitled to canadian passports/citzenship.
Does she have the right for us to move as a family to canada, and obtain work etc,
Or As I am a uk passport holder, do I have to apply for entry/work permits ?
The options if it is possible is the vancouver area, any comments / suggestions ?
Cheers
Jerry

Being married to Canadian citizen doesn't give you any rights, except the
eligibility to be sponsored for PR visa. Once your wife gets her proof of
Canadian citizenship (she must apply for one) she may start sponsoring you
even while still in UK.

Re: immigration when wife is canadian
She does not require Proof of Cdn Citizenship as her Birth Certificate is
sufficient to apply for a Passport which is Prima Facie evidence of
Citizenship. You shlould look at www.cic.gc.ca for more info on processing.

quick reply !!
Hi
Many thanks for the very quick reply, I have all the forms from the embassy, and a verbal that she will most probably be entitled to a canadian passport, and the forms for citizenship for the kids.
I didn't want to ask to much first time we contacted the high commission.......
But you say that she can sponsor me , once she has a passport for a 'PR visa',
Sorry for my ignorance but is this a special type of application ?
I see from your post you are from the area we are interested in going, ( where my wife was born), I am uk electrician with extensive qualifications & wide experience, presently I am working as a building management systems field service engineer
( computer controlled HVAC, etc ) Any idea what the job prospects are ?
Sorry for so many questions, many thanks.
Cheers
Jerry

Re: immigration when wife is canadian
And what I just said? She must apply for proof of her citizenship (either
passport or Proof of Citizenship document) before doing anything - birth
certificate doesn't prove that she is still a Canadian citizen as she may
have lost it if responsible parent (father) obtained foreign citizenship
before 1977 while she was still a minor.

Re: immigration when wife is canadian
Yes, once your wife has her proof of Canadian citizenship (either Canadian
passport or document called Proof of Citizenship) she can start sponsoring
you for PR visa while still in UK. Forms and instructions are here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/applications/fc.html
I am not in the human resources business but from what I see here you
shouldn't have problems getting a job in your field with your skills and
experience. If you would be one of those gazillions of IT professionals
(read 'programmers') out there your chances for job in Vancouver area
wouldn't be great, but as a skilled electrician you have pretty good job
prospects.
You may contact me directly if you wish.

BTW, can the Canadian PR (not a citizen) sponsor his spouse for the PR visa?

Yes, of course - both, Canadian citizens and Canadian PR can sponsor
spouses. The only difference is that Canadian citizen may sponsor spouse
while residing either in Canada or abroad, but PR can only sponsor family
member when residing in Canada.
