How old are you, what's your highest education level, would you consider any province, any business experience and any Canadian significant other?

Personal questions I know, but I promise they are relevant to visa options!

Study permit and do a masters maybe?

I'm afraid that's the only other visa route I can think of other than a job offer/LMIA.

Good luck.

Can you elaborate? Is there really no reputable agency/service to use for guidance in this process?

I understand I'd have to do a lot of the work myself, but paying for the guidance is worth the money in my eyes.

Don't get me wrong, I think that a good immi consultant can be worth his/her weight in gold for somebody that needs them - somebody that needs criminal rehab, or that has possible misrep issues, or that might fail a medical etc.

But for a normal straightforward case, I can't see any need to pay thousands for something that you can do yourself - and I say that as somebody that worked for an immi consultant for years!

The CIC website will answer most questions, and a quick search of this forum (or asking) will do the rest. We have immi consultants, CIC employees and a CBSA officer that all post on here and give advice for free.

Your call of course, and if you do decide to use a consultant I'd just check that they are licensed, and also search this forum to see what's been said about them in the past.

Best of luck.

Just some further clarification.....so is need a job offer to get enough points to enter the express entry pool but how do I expect someone to offer me a job when I don't have a visa? It seems like a catch 22 or am I misunderstanding the process?

Also is there I site where I can look for jobs with employers willing to offer lmia?

Ok, fair enough. I was leaning towards using a consultant, but I will first get a handle on what it'll take to do it myself. Thanks for the swift replies.

No, you've understood it fine. A lot of people manage to get job offers from employers prepared to sponsor their visas, so it's perfectly possible, it just demands on how you go about it and how in demand you are.

So you'd job hunt, hopefully find an employer prepared to apply for your LMIA. once you've got the LMIA, you'd then move to Canada on a TWP (very few employers are prepared to wait 9 months or so to get PR for an employee to start work, no matter how specialist their skills), and then apply for PR once there. That's how most in the forums have done it if they don't qualify for PR without a job offer.

No. But as per the Wiki, hunting via websites is almost pointless. You need to job hunt in person or at the very least pick up the phone. Network, network, network! Can any of your friends help you out maybe, could they speak to their companies and see if they're looking for somebody like you? A personal introduction would be a great start.

It seems there are a few jobs available depending on your exact job title - though not necessarily in Vancouver. I would look up the NOC code most closely matching your present duties.

http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/report-eng....rce=3#job_opps

You could look under Facility Operation and Maintenance Managers, Facility Managers or Property Managers / Administrators and compare them to your current work - you'll see examples of other job titles under each, together with a description of the main duties. Here's a couple:

Unit Group 0714 Facility operation and maintenance managers (Skill level O)
Unit Group 1224 Property administrators (Skill level B)

You can find the full list here: http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/...ons.aspx?val=0

Apologies for hijacking the thread. christmasoompa, I'm in fairly similar situation to the poster where my CRS score is less than the current pool min of 450. One avenue which I thought was to go for a Masters degree in a different discipline (Let's call it 'B') to my current main discipline (let's call it 'A'), complementing it. Say I stay on in Canada, find work and then apply for PR.

Q1a- if I manage to find work related to discipline A, then for the PR application, I can use my 20+ years experience together with a job (+600 points), right?

Q1b - if instead I find work related to discipline B, then wouldn't I lose my years of experience associated with discipline A since I'm applying n the basis of Discipline B job?

Just trying to think things through and putting them to the forum, I guess for both the questions above, I will have in excess of 600 points due to having a job. Have I got that right? Thanks in advance.
