Smile Immigration help

Hey guys,

The girlfriend and I are wanting to move to Canada. We are looking at using a company called Overseas Emigration Visa based in Edinburgh Scotland. Just wondering if this is a good company to proceed with and if not any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris, and welcome to BE.

I've not heard of that company, but you can do a quick forum search to see if anything has been said about them in the past.

Do you definitely need to use a consultant though, do you have complicated circumstances? Most on the forum do it themselves, but if you do want to use a consultant there are one or two that are regularly recommended on here so it might be worth getting in touch with them too.

What visa route are you looking at?

Good luck with it all.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Will try again to look on the forum.

We don't have complicated circumstances, it's just that we don't really know how to go about doing it ourselves.
I'm a skilled chef and the girlfriend is an early childcare worker, so we have got the qualifications to go and work over there.

Who are the two companies on the forum that are recommended?

Cheers, Chris

Not sure what visa route you're going down (as a chef I'd assume Skilled Worker, but that program is on hold until January and of course we don't know that chefs will still be on 'the list' when it changes). Do look in to Early Childhood Educators in Canada as well - no idea if it's as tough a field to get in to as teaching, but it's worth double checking.

If you don't have complicated circumstances then you can certainly do the paperwork yourself, maybe the best thing to do is download the application forms and see if you'd be happy doing them yourselves? You can't apply until January anyway unless you've got a job offer, so you've got plenty of time to get your head around it all.

And a lot of immigration consultants will offer a form checking service, which usually only cost a few hundred pounds rather than the thousands you'll pay for the full service.

HTH.

Hi Chris

When you first look at all this it seems extremely daunting/difficult to get your head around. After a while of reading through this forum you start to see a clear path.
Wade though the immigration section of the forum, learn, ask questions and soon enough you will see a route to follow and be able to apply under your own steam without using a consultant. (Says he that used one )

If, to start with, you give us a clue as to your Occupation/experience, approx. age, education (just general details, no specific/personal information required) then I'm sure a few BE members might suggest a route for you to look at.

You can take it from there then.

regards
James

any idea which part of Canada your are aiming for? ECE's are very much in demand here (there is a relative easy assessing and bridging program available in Manitoba), Chefs....ahhh, I can't see a problem there either.

So yes, read through most of it, don't forget to have a look at the Provincial Nominee Programs (part of MB ones will restart as well beginning of 2013)
