Default Immigration Canada - Moving in 5 days - Help!

Not that I can do much about this now anyway, but I have not been able to find anything "official" online to confirm that I will be able to go to Canada with my family and stay until my visa arrives! My husband is Canadian and two children aged 4 and 6 months are also therefore Canadian. So its just me who has had to apply for a visa. We decided we want to get to Canada on time for my lil one to start Kindergarten, so have booked flights (one way) for 28th August for all of us and the dog. We have our whole house shipped across and it is due to arrive in Toronto just after us. We leave in 5 days and I have just had an email confirming that the 1st stage of my visa app is successful. Only about another 8 months to go!!! Aaarrgghh! So can anyone offer advice for us at immigration on Tuesday! I am guessing I am allowed to stay for 6 months as a visitor? I was intending to just be honest with immigration officer and explain that I have a visa app in process, but husband and children are moving earlier to find job/settle inn school etc and that I will be staying as a visitor, not working and if my visa application doesn't arrive before the 6 months that I have no intentions of remaining illegally and showing that I do have ties in England to come back if necessary? Do you think Ill have problems getting in on that basis? There is no advice on any official web sites that I could find?
Also, if my visa still hasn't arrived by the end of 6 months, does anyone know what I have to do? How long do I have to leave the country for before I am able to return? ie am I able to just hop across to USA then back again, or will I have to return back to the UK for a minimum period. Any advice much appreciated!!! Starting to stress about how difficult this could become at the airport in Toronto on Tuesday!!!

AFAIK, and assuming you have a British passport, you will not have any problem at immigration. Ask them for a one year visitor's visa.

How about your children? Do they have Canadian passports or birth certificates?

If they only give you a six month visa and your PR does not arrive within 5 months then the best thing to do is to apply to CIC at Vegreville to renew it. I believe you can also flagpole.

That sounds positive! I didn't know you could ask for 12 months. Thanks for the info.
