How to turn AIP letter into work permit?
Hello everyone,
I have just found this site, what a useful resource for coping with all the CIC-induced headaches!
I applied for PR from within Canada in the spousal class just over six months ago. Going by the processing times posted on the CIC site, I am expecting the AIP letter shortly. I am also currently on a work permit that is due to expire shortly, and which I fear will not be renewed, so time is quite important.
When I get the AIP letter, can I take it to a local CIC office and get my new work permit there, or do I have to apply through the post?
Also, if the time gets very tight, and I have to apply to extend my status in Canada, is it correct that I can make the application right up until the last day I am currently entitled to remain in Canada? The application pack says you must apply 30 days prior, though I understand the law is actually different--and that it is OK to apply right up to the last day that you're legal. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks,
Jon

Apply at least 30 days in advance, it is taking 54 days to process
extensions in Vegreville.
