Hi

Our son has mild Asperger's too. We originally did medicals in August 2009 and these went off in Sept (had to redo one of tests). Within a month we had a letter asking for more info on our son. This took some time to sort out as he sees no specialists. This was sent off straight after New Year. I think it was about 3 1/2 months before we got the "Excessive Demand" letter. (You probably remember our case!)

Since we received confirmation that he is now admissible, we had to redo our medicals (as they had expired) - though strangely, just me, OH and our daughter. CHC confirmed they did not require our son to have another medical - which at least saved us a bit of cash.

Just to update, we had the new medicals at the end of October. We are currently waiting for our new police certificates to arrive then :fingerscrossed: we'll get PPR.

Try not to worry too much, you may be lucky and not receive any Excessive Demand letters. I know how hard it is not to think about it so it is probably pointless me telling you not to worry!

:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed: for you!

I don't know how long it might be before you get an excessive demand letter but just wanted to say that I have everything crossed that you don't get any at all! :fingerscrossed:

Lins do you know when the DM sent your med results back. We had ours done on 5th Oct and the Dr didnt send all the results back until 27th Oct. So 3 weeks went by with nothing happening. Our Lawyer told us it take's Ottawa 2-3 weeks to update London on the med results.

Re: How soon after medicals will we get an excessive demand letter?

The usual is a month after CIC receive your medicals. If you don't hear anything within 2 months your usually okay.

What I would usually suggest would be a week after a month has passed, e-mail CIC to check they have received the medicals and ask when PPR is due to come out - they will then either respond saying they have recently sent you a letter (which would be the excessive demand) or with the usual no PPR's will be issued until Dec/Jan time.

Hi all,

Well you were all pretty spot on with your timelines on when we would hear about excessive demand/more info request...

As suspected, we got the dreaded brown envelope through the door yesterday requesting more information on our son who has Aspergers Syndrome. We knew we would get it, so shouldn't be surprised really.

I dont seem to have got a letter for my dodgy hips (one got operated on last weekend:eek:) but it may be in the post...

Is it standard procedure to get a request for further info before getting excessive demand letter?

We didn't get a further request letter Lins. When we had our medicals we gave the DMP copies of Amber's statement, Asperger's diagnosis and all her historical reports, i.e. S&L, Paed, Ed Psych, SENCO, school etc. We had our medicals on 26 Jan 10 and our 'Excessive Demand' letter was dated 22 Jun 10. What additional info have they asked you to provide?

Good luck, Joe

Joe,
dont know...its in a sealed envelope that we have to hand to original DMP
We gave them everything we had on him, which TBH wasn't an awful lot as he doesnt need any services now.
Perhaps they want to send him for an independent ed psych assessment??

sorry if this is a stupid question... but does this apply to spouses who are being sponsored as well? My husband has Crohn's and the Dr who did his medical seemed to think it shouldnt be an issue for us. :fingerscrossed:

spouses are excessive demand exempt , when applying via spousal route so , no it shouldn't be a problem

Re: How soon after medicals will we get an excessive demand letter?

Hi Lins, Sorry to hear you got the letter requesting more information. It's a shame it's in an envelope; ours wasn't and I only had phone contact with our DMP. I think you are probably in a similar situation to us, not having had much info to hand over at your medicals. We had to see and ed. psych. and a paediatrician. If there are no problems at school etc then you really need to get them to stress this in their reports and then hopefully it will not need to go any further. :fingerscrossed: that you can get this sorted out soon. Thinking of you, it is a really stressful time, I know, but try not to let it get to you too much (easier said than done, I know).

Re: How soon after medicals will we get an excessive demand letter?

Had confirmation that it is a request for psych assessement...IQ tests etc. I assume they would want us to use someone who does not already know my son...so its independent?
With our DMP now. More waiting. I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end.

Great news,
Managed to source a Ed Psych who will come to the house on Saturday afternoon (weather permitting)to do full 2hr assessment on the wee man. Delighted as he will have report completed a few days later allowing us a week(and a bit) turnaround on this.

Re: How soon after medicals will we get an excessive demand letter?

lins, we got an independent Ed Psych report done in advance, and submitted it at the medical to the DMP - our ed psych was very good, we explained to her exactly what we needed the report for, so as well as the usual test results etc, we asked her to give a longer term view/ independent living etc. I'm pretty sure the Ed Psych report was the reason we didn't get an excessive demand letter. pm me if you want a copy of ours to see what she wrote... :D (not Aspergers, but needed it to rule out learning disability etc - youngest has cp)

Glad you got it sorted so quickly (and on a Saturday too). Hope it goes well and you're soon onto the next stage - and those hoops that we have to keep jumping through are lined with chocolate. ;)

I just wanted to ask a quick question to you as my husband also has Crohns, he had his original medical done by the high commission back in London, our PR papers are currently in at the moment and we're waiting to hear back about having medicals done. Did your husband have to have another medical done here in Canada?

Hi Rooander, Im not sure if my application process might make a difference. I think that it does. Im a Canadian sponsoring my UK spouse. (We both happen to have Crohn's but as far as I know no one but you guys knows about me having it!) my husband just did the one medical here in the UK and his medical had to be done before we sent in the application. so far he has not been asked to do any further medicals or for any further information at all. I have been approved as the sponsor, and his application has been sent to London. On Ecas it says "Medical Results Received". so not sure if that might mean that the medical part is done for us with no issues (hopefully).

Im not sure if Ive just confused the issue for you more on this or not!
good luck with yours. hopefully someone who knows more about this and your type of application will add to this topic.

Hiya Linsy, been there done that,

Our son has aspergers and ADHD, we got the excessive demand letter to, back in May 2010, finally heard he had been accepted in August 2010, and got our visa in Jan 2011.

If you need any help or advice pm me and I will help in anyway I can - we had to put forward a plan to support him for the first five years.

Good luck with everything and take some reassurance that it does happen and you do get through it!!

You should note that VW092906 is a spousal sponsorship so "excessive demand" doesn't apply their case.

This is just a musing but as I read the above I thought "hmmm, why do spouses have to sit a medical if excessive demand doesn't apply in spousal apps" is it to do with the fact that they are then able to work with kids and in hospitals etc once they get their pr?

They can still be refused if they have a disease or condition dangerous to the public health.

Hi,

I have Chrones and am waiting for med requests. Obviously anxious as Chrones is mentioned on the forms for DMP but as I've not actually been ill with it for 14+ years and stopped taking medication 5+ years ago I'm hoping I'll pass the medical:fingerscrossed:

I have a letter from my GP stating that I am in remission and have not taken any meds for years so hope that helps.

I'll let you know how it goes at the medical if and when we get them.

none yet tracy...
Havent had request for more info on my hips which i expected...which is strange cos the surgery would have cost far more than my wee guy in his whole life!

Ive had one hip done and seeing cons on thursday with a view to getting left one done. So will be done and dusted before immigration anyway.

We had more info requested on wee man which is sitting with them. We have been told to expect a response by 10th april...so we will see. <sigh>

It's so frustrating, I'm a bit like a manic depressive at the moment, up and down like a yo-yo. One minute excited and making plans, the next convinced we'll be turned down after investing so much time, energy and money into our dreams.

And Tracy what is a DMP?
Not been on this site much so trying to get used to lingo ;)
