help! speeding ticket from other province in canada
Hi,
I recently got a speeding ticket in quebec while I'm a resident of BC,
Canada. I don't want to pay for it 'cause they caught me only because
I was driving in another province's license plate. Then they kept
sending me warnings and raised the fine. Do I need to worry about this
ticket from other province(I'm with ICBC) or what kind of punishment
I'm facing if I don't follow them? Any help will be appreciated.

1. What on -earth- does this have to do with canuck immigration?
2. You face license revocation (driving is a privilege, not a right)
3. You face jail terms/heftier fines
Oh, and I don't buy your story about "they caught me only because
I was drying with an out-of-state plates". I live in QC, and I know for a
fact that except under very rare cases, you should be fine driving BC cars
in this province.
Good luck,

If you have not paid your ticket Quebec has been known to issue a bench
warrant in these situations. Oneday when you are speeding in BC the RCMP may
find a warrant for your arrest and do the needful.

Nothing to do with immigration. In future, you may want to post to an
appropriate newsgroup.

No, I suspect they caught you because (what a concept) you were
SPEEDING. Your licence plate has nothing to do with it and is not a valid
legal defence. You got the ticket, you don't deny you were speeding, so
therefore, pay up.

You can challenge the ticket in court, though your chances of being
successful are almost zero because you didn't say you weren't speeding and
your only 'defence' is not a valid one. Pay the fine. It could get very
messy if you don't, including arrest, loss of licence, non-renewal of your
licence or further costs and legal action.

They caught only me while I was following other local cars on the HW,
and they started the whistle after following me for a while(I slowed
further down before that of course). At least part of the reason is my
out-of-province plate.
And just checked with them, they don't have agreement other than
Ontario and NY so are not going to do anything outside of Quebec.

So you don't deny you were driving over the posted speed limit, then?
Police speed traps are like lions...they go for the guy at the end.
> At least part of the reason is my out-of-province plate.
Did the officer say that when he was writing the ticket, or is this an
assumption? Out of province plates have nothing to do with this. What has
a lot to do with it is that you were speeding. That got you your ticket,
not anything else. If you weren't speeding, guess what...you wouldn't have
got a ticket.
> And just checked with them, they don't have agreement other than

Don't bet on it. When you renew your BC DL, you are required to
disclose any outstanding extraprovincial tickets, etc.
But this has nothing to do with immigration. This has nothing to do
with the colour of your car, what agreements the province has or your
licence plate. You admit you were speeding. You got a ticket for speeding.
Just pay the fine. A good citizen...or immigrant...accepts the consequences
of their behaviour, regardless of if they're 'good' or 'bad'.
