Help Mr Miller!! info to change wife's name PR Card
Hello Mr Miller, and other experts,
I (and my wife too) have this late surge of wisdom to change my Wife's
maiden name to my last name!! And I just have no idea where to start.
For your information, we are landed immigrants from India since 2003
Feb, and we both have PR cards.
1) Do I need to change her name on her passport first (nearest Indian
consultate)? Then approach the nearest immigration office to change
her name on the PR card?
2) What is the process to change her name?
3) how long does it take to process?
4) what documents do I need to submit?
Your advices on this matter are really appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Ananth

Contact your provincial government's department of Vital Statistics to
determine the requirements in this case. That is the first step for a legal
name change.
Once you've gone though the name change process, you can then proceed
with changing your name on other documents, such as passports, drivers
licence, visa, PR card, SIN etc.

No way to predict, overall.
> 4) what documents do I need to submit?
Differ according to the thing you're changing. In the case of the PR
card, information would be available from www.cic.gc.ca .

In all provinces except Quebec, the common law allows a wife to assume
and use her husband's surname without any formal name change
procedure. The first step is to take your marriage certificate to a
driver's licence bureau and they will change the name on her licence.
Then, when she receives her new licence in the mail, she can use it to
change other provincial or federal documents.
For Ontario, see: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dan...ver/change.htm
