Default HELP: money-change shops

How about money-changers:
Are there any in Vancouver, at least at the airport ?
Are their rates better than the bank rates ?
Is it better to change US dollars to Canadian here in
the US or it is better in Canada ?

Thanks

Lots, and there is one at the airport.

It didn't appear so at the airport, but the ones in Vancouver, e.g. Customs
House appeard to be better.

The way the Canadian dollar is appreciating against the US the last few
weeks, it might be better to change there. What I would do is check on line
for currency rates in the Canadian papers and compare what you would pay in
the US.

Your best bet is to change your money in Vancouver (if US dollars) is at
any Canadian bank (don't use the airport - too expensive). The fees, if
any, will be lower than the money changers and you'll get the best
rate. If you're changing currency other than US dollars, you'd need to
use a downtown bank rather than a branch in the suburbs - all the
downtown main branches have foreign exchange departments and can change
worldwide currencies.

If you must use a money changer other than a bank (and you'll end up
paying more), Thomas Cook Foreign Exchange is highly reputable.

Just to name a few of the big banks:

CIBC (Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce)
Royal Bank of Canada
TD Canada Trust
Scotiabank
HSBC

Current exchange on www.tdcanadatrust.com today:

to buy US$1, you pay $1.40

to sell US$1, you get $1.3590

Karen :-)
