Help!!!
Hi guys,
I'm an OZ bound member but a good friend of mine has applied for residency in Canada through an agent and is encountering a few problems. Any advice would be great, I'm sure you guys are as helpful as those on the OZ forums.
Here's the basic info:
He handed all is paperwork and money to his agent in July 2007. After that he heard nothing from his agent for over six months. He started getting worried as people who applied after him through the same embassy were getting a file number but he was not hearing anything. Upon his persistence the agent finally claimed that the Nairobi embassay cashed the payment in August 2007. However they claim that no file number was allocated to him because there is a huge back log in Nairobi. They have not provided any proof that they even made a payment to the embassy.
I went with him today to meet the agent, she had no proof that payment was even made..but was acting angry claimming that we either had to trust them or they could cancel the application and give him his money back. Since he is now over the age limit that is not an option.
any advice would be great.
cheers

Re: Help!!!
Consultants are licensed in Canada and if there are such problems the issue can be made into a complaint to the authority - Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants. Their website address is: http://www.csic-scci.ca/en/
If the agent is unlicensed and operating beyond the law then there is nothing much to be done although I would still complain to the Society.

Is it normal that he has not received a file number more than a year after application?
thanks

Re: Help!!!
You should complain to the consultant and if you feel they are not being forthcoming, then complain to CSIC. I do not know where your application has been sent so it is hard to say about the file number. I used to have to get them by getting a copy of the canceled processing fee check. I am glad to be retired now to be frank.
