Heeeeeeeeeeelllllppp !!
Can someone please relieve me from my thickness, we`re going to Canada on a TWP and need to apply for a study permit for my 9 year old son :
1. Do i fill out the study application form with his details only (like he has filled it in) ??
2. We dont yet know where he will be studying so how do we deal with the intended study section ??
3. Do i need his passport copies certifying ??
Thanks in advance

Are you sure you need a study permit? We didn't for our daughter because one of us was working.

Re: Heeeeeeeeeeelllllppp !!
we payed I think $75 per kid and they got the extra "comment" on their visitor records (accompanying OH on his TWP) that they are allowed to go to elementary and secondary school. Only if we would have had kids that were at an age to go to Uni we would have needed a study permit.

Re: Heeeeeeeeeeelllllppp !!
I sent in my application for my TWP but it came back yesterday as `incomplete` because of the missing study permit application form and the £80 fee. It does seem a bit pointless as i can`t supply much information on the form apart from his personal details which they already have on the family information form .

It sounds like who ever is processing your application for a TWP has their facts wrong.
According to the CIC help pages: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcen...asp?q=488&t=15
a minor child can go to school without a study permit if:
one parent (biological or adoptive) is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
or
one parent (biological or adoptive) is permitted to study or work in Canada;
or
neither parent is physically in Canada.
It states the same on the application guide http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informa...s/5269ETOC.asp
A person may be exempted from the requirement of a study permit in the following situations:
Minor children attending pre-school, primary or secondary levels,
Perhaps it would be easier to apply for your TWP at the airport, then you wouldn't have to worry about the application for a study permit.

Hi
Actually they have their facts right. If you apply for a work permit at an overseas office, and you have school age children you have to apply for a study permit for them. See: the instructions manual http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informa...s/5487ETOC.asp
Most persons who are TRV exempt apply for their work permits at the port of entry, so the children are either issued a study permit or just shown as dependants on the work permit. Some school districts will allow the children to attend school without study permits, other insist on study permits.
The Regulations state: http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/r...e-71.html#h-91 Section 188 who can study in Canada without a study permit.

Re: Heeeeeeeeeeelllllppp !!
I think this thread proves my point completely - nobody seems to ACTUALLY be able to interpret the CIC website and everyone i`ve spoken to has a different opinion. I`ve sent the forms back and applied for the son`s study permit too just to get on with the process, if its wrong then i`ve paid £80 out for nothing but its not the end of the world.
