Default Good News! But I still Need Advice

I just got good news, but I still need advice! Just minutes ago, my
(Canadian) wife called me from Florida. She had a letter from the Buffalo
Consulate requesting my passport to enter the PR Visa. They also wanted some
new pictures. So far, so good!

Here is where we are confused and really need advice. I have been living in
Canada since last October. I had an initial visitor visa for 6 months and
had it renewed so that it doesn't expire until December 2003. To start the
transition to moving to Canada, we began using one of those mail box places
in Florida to get our mail. We informed Immigration Canada of the mail box
address AND the address where I'm located in Ontario. Nevertheless, the
Buffalo people sent the passport request to the street address in North
Miami. Still no problem. We received it OK.

Here's the problem. What should we do? Should I have her send everything to
me so that I can have pictures made and mail them and the passport from here
with the Canadian address
-OR-
Should I mail my passport to her along with the pictures so that it will be
arriving in Buffalo from the address they sent it to.

My initial reaction is to do it from here in Canada since I am here legally.
My wife is leaning toward sending it from within the States. Help!! I hate
to be so paranoid, but I have waited so long I don't want to foul up now.

In addition to not wanting to cause confusion and delay the process, I also
want to get my passport back ASAP. Because of family health matters and
other concerns, I may have to return to the U.S. suddenly. I have no birth
certificate with me and I have already gotten an Ontario license.

Thanks for any advice offered.

PS Whoopee! (despite the confusion). I knew it was a good idea to have my
three cats and dog wear miniature Mounty hats when we crossed the border. I
suspect this speeded things up.

If you want it fast then ask Buffalo to send it back to you by FedEx to
Canadian address - simply go to FedEx website and open an account. Then
provide that account with your request to use it when sending passport back
to you to Canada.

But if you need to return to US then go there first, before sending passport
to Buffalo and then provide one of your US addresses for the passport to be
returned to you.

Bless you Mr. Miller. Your advice has helped many. If I understand you
correctly, there is only an issue of speed. I won't be "in trouble" for
sending it from Canada although the authorities sent it to US? That is my
main concern. I can live with a reasonable delay in getting it back. By the
way, do you happen to have an idea on the turnaround time for the passport?
Again thanks. I hate to impose on the group for help, but I feel so close to
the goal now.

Buffalo sends passports back within 7 to 12 business days in average.

As long as you ask to send passport back to your address in US or Canada
(other than P.O.Box) you'll be fine.

P.S.

Note that key word is **average** when it comes to any timeline. I know
cases when passport was sent 2 days after it was received by Buffalo and
cases when it happened 20 days later, so don't make any plans based on
*average* times.
