Girlfriend as a dependent?

My girlfriend and myself are looking to move from UK to Canada. I should not have any
problems, but my girlfriend only has 6 months work experience in her chosen
occupation (she holds a degree). Apart from this she scores enough points.

Is there any way I can get her into Canada as a dependent, or do we have to get
married? Would the immigration officials let her in with 6 months experience if I ask
them nicely?

Hi:

Your girlfriend can not be named as a dependent. Only your spouse can be named as a
dependent.

She will have to apply and qualify for Canadian permanent residency on her own.

Yours truly, Ingrid Y. Chen, B.A., LL.B.

Hi there,

I came over here on temporary work authorisation (via the Software Workers Pilot
scheme) with my fiancee, last October. Immigration was quite happy for her to come
into the country as a dependent on a years visitor visa (my work authorisation is
also currently a year). She was named as a dependent in all the applications we
submitted in UK prior to departure.

Hope this helps somewhat

Get married. Then put her as your dependant. Problem solved.

Otherwise you'll have lots of headaches trying to get her over here AND get her an
employment authorisation so that she doesn't have to sit at home. Or you can wait
till she becomes eligible to apply as an independent. But then you probably want
to make sure that you can both land at the same time. There is no guarantee that
your applications will get processed at the same time or even within the same
year.... Tricky.

A girlfriend or fiancee is not included in the definition of an accompanying
dependent. As such, inclusion in your application prior to marriage would be subject
to the discretion of an immigration official, and would not be likely to be approved.

Positive discretion can be requested in the case of your girlfriend. Again, this is
subject to the discretion of an immigration official, and is risky.
