I have sent the finger prints to Washington DC for FBI clearance
(Updated), don't know how long it's going to take. Finger prints
reached Washington DC on Feb 20th and did not hear anything until
now.My doctor said he sent our medicals and should be receiving the
acknowledgement in a couple of days.

My question is do I need to wait until I get the FBI clearance or I
can go ahead submit the documents and pay ROLF right away and send the
FBI clearance later. I have all the required documents ready and just
waiting for the FBI clearance.

Any inputs on this is highly appreciated.

It will take you 3 to 4 weeks to hear back from FBI.
You can not submit the application without the FBI and State clearances. (I
hope you applied for State clearance as well?)
THe check list in the application says that you have to submit that with the
package.
If I were you, i'd rather wait till all documents are in full and then
submit. In this case you will avoid any unwanted delays, as the case will be
processed at once, and won't be put on the "waiting shelf" untill they
recieve police clearances from you.

FBI F/P took 5 weeks for me. FBI received my package on Nov. 10, '03
and I got the cards back on Dec. 12, '03.
I would suggest you to wait till you get the F/P cards back from FBI
and send ROLF and other documents along with FBI f/p cards. Pls. make
sure you send the updated ROLF.

Thanks for the info Karen. I have applied for the FBI clearance only,
in the letter they did not ask for the state clearance. Do I need to
apply for the state as well? Please let me know.

I sent ours february 10th, i called them yesterday left a message,
they called me back the same day and i was told that they started
processing it on the 25th. that's all

Yes, you need a state clearance.
By the way, you don't need to request a blank fingerprint card. Go to any
police station and ask for it. It's the same blank. Get your fingerprints
done, and then send one to FBI, and another one to the state you belong to.
If you are in California, then you must send it to Sacramento.

When was it recieved by FBI? Was it on 02/25? Why did it take those
many days when you sent it on 2nd Feb. Don't think otherwise, cuz my
FP was received by FBI on 02/20 and I did not hear anything from them
yet.
According to you, your FP was recived by FBI on 02/25 and you received
it already. Could you pleas let me know the date received by FBI, it
would be helpful for me.

well honestly, when i called , the lady is the one who told me that my
FP started processing on the 25th. she did use the expression "we
received them on the 25th"

Thanks for the info Josh. It took around 5 weeks for your FP, I should
be getting mine in the 3rd or 4th week of March. If I get them in this
week that would be really great.
