Default Family status question

Hi experts:

Currently, I am a canadian citizen. Not long ago, I've sponsored my
parents through the family class immigration.
The question that I have is can one reduce or eliminate completely the
sponsorship period (10 years in my case)?
The rumours are that this is possible. Could anyone confirm that and
what would the procedure be?

Thanks a lot.

No, it is not possible - once you signed and entered into undertaking agreement
you are bound by it for 10 years.

You are correct in assessing the information as rumors as that is all
it is. Under the new Immigration and Refugee Protection Act the
periods of responsibility have been reduced however this has no impact
on any applications that were processed under the Immigration Act
1976. The 10 year period is solid.

I believe they only reduced them to 3 years for spouses and dependant
children too didnt they? So even under the new law it would be 10 years for
a parental sponsorship.

The original question was about application approved and undertaking agreement
signed under the old law - new law will not have any effect on those. Once
agreement is signed it will be enforced as agreed, period.
