Expired PR card
Hi,
My parent's PR cards have expired more than 5 years ago. At the time of landing they wanted to immigrate from the UK to Canada but it never happened they continued visiting 1-2 times a year staying roughly 2 months everytime with me (daughter). Due to personal circumstances they did not renew their cards in time and now 6 years has passed and they want to come and live here with me for good. Is there anything we can do to renew their status in Canada or have they lost their immigration for good.
Any help or guidance is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Expired PR card
To keep PR status they would have to be residing in Canada for 730 days out of 5 years. I can't see that your parents would have managed that with only 2-4 months staying here per year. It doesn't matter if the PR cards are expired or in date, as they didn't meet the residency rules they lost their PR status for good.
The only thing is to apply again/for you to sponsor them although the parent sponsoring is on hold for the moment to get rid of the huge backlog http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informa...ons/family.asp
or
the parent/grandparent supervisa which would give them visitor status for 2 years extendable for up to 10. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/supervisa.asp

Yep, in every 5 year period you must have resided in Canada for at least 2 years aka 730 days. So you could do one year in Canada and one out and one in again, or 3 out and 2 in. If you leave it late though then you won't be able to leave Canada for the slightest reason i.e. family emergency abroad.

They are still deemed to be a PR and have a right of entry into Canada until formally reported for failing to meet the 730 day residency obligation and issued with a removal order, voluntarily relinquishing their PR status in writing or flying under the radar and staying in Canada for 730 days without CBSA?CIC finding out.

If they never landed then their COPR forms are no longer valid and would never have received PR status without activating the COPR forms.

Not quite. If they made a formal landing then the below applies.

Edited to say, am I reading it right that their PR cards expired 5 years ago? So 11 years have passed since they got PR originally?
