Experts ?? How to get Spousal Work permit
Hi Experts
One of my friends is in canada on Work Permit on a Class B designation job...
Can she get a open work permit for her husband who is currently overseas.
1> What is the process for the same.
2> Can she do it while her husband is overseas..
3> What is the timeline..
Thanks

But the rules also say "the principal foreign worker and spouse must physically reside in Canada".
So the correct approach would be for the spouse to apply as he enters Canada (at POE) making sure he has a copy of his wife's Work Permit, job offer, job description etc as evidence of eligibility for an open work permit; or to travel to Canada first as a visitor and apply from within Canada.

So is the WP given at point of entry or person just submits the application..

If the Work Permit holder is doing work that is classified as skill level A or B according to NOC codes (assume this is what you mean by Class B?) then the holders spouse can apply for an open work permit (duration is up until the validity of the main work permit). So the answer is yes.

I think you can choose. POE is probably the best bet in my view. The applicant would just make sure they have all the necessary supporting documentation and on arrival tell the Border Services agent they wish to apply for a work permit - they would be directed to an immigration officer.
