Default Entering Canada in 2003 w/o PR Card

Hi everyone,

My wife (a US citizen and Canadian PR) and I are planning to drive
down to the US for a quick vacation this month. She became a Canadian
PR in 2000, and therefore she hasn't been able to even apply for the
PR Card just yet. So obviously we will be travelling with just her
old PR document.

I know that a PR Card isn't necessary for travel until December 31,
2003, so I assume that we won't have any trouble coming back into
Canada at the end of the trip. But has anybody had the experience of
coming back into Canada during this transition period? I just want to
make sure that we won't have any trouble even though she does not have
the PR Card just yet.

Perhaps this is a silly question but I just want to make sure.
Thanks!

Mark

I am also a US citizen and Canadian PR (landed a year ago) and I have driven down to the US twice and flown once since November 1st, the last trip was a week ago driving. No problems at all when crossing back into Canada. Nobody even mentioned the PR card, just asked my status in Canada.

Take your trip and don't worry at all.

Did you have to show proof of residency at all?

We always hand the agent our passports and mine has my landing papers in it, but I don't think any of them looked at it except maybe the one in the airport. I was not asked for anything else to prove residence.
