Default English test

I'm starting the emigration process and the first hurdle I've encountered is the English test. The cic website link took me to a test provider who wants $300+ tax, this seems a bit steep to me. Is there any alternative to this?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

IELTS outside Canada and CELPIP or IELTS in Canada.

All about $300.

CELPIP is a little cheaper because it is 100% computer based for the test.

Immigrating to Canada isn't cheap. Everyone along the way picks your pocket.

$150-Application per child x3 (if I remember rightly)
$450-Medicals per adult x2
$150-Medicals per child x3

Even our family class application ran us just short of $2000 when it was all said and done, and that didn't require the English test - Mr Schnooks will have to do that when it comes time for citizenship, though! That was no dependants either, just the fees for me as a sponsor and Mr Schnooks as the applicant!

That's without the moving costs...

I would estimate as a family we have spent between 10,000-15,000 sterling on the whole process.

If you add in moving costs it's a whole other beast.

That's actually very cheap. Most people reckon around £25,000 for a family to move permanently once you've included all of the set up costs etc.

Well it might be I don't think we've ever done a final tally so I'm guesstimating!

If I get a job offer from a Canadian employer would I still have to go down the English test route before I can get a work visa ?

Hi there. The language test shouldn't really be a major hurdle if you were educated in English and it is your first language. It's just one of those things that has to be done. I don't know if you need to sit the test for a TWP though. I suspect not but someone else will know more than me. When you say emigrating, do you mean for good? In which case I'm pretty sure you have to sit the test.

As has already been said, the cost involved is nothing compared to the costs you're likely to face. Do you know what route to Canada you intend to take? Is it just you or you and family etc.

A little more info and there are very knowledgeable bods on here who can help you.

What a great adventure! Lots of us have done just that. What do you do for a living? I think this is likely to have a big impact on how you get here.
