Elder Can. citizen ill, wishing to return to family.
Hello,
I am the son-in-law of a Canadian Citizen who resides in the US
legally. He is retired and recently fell very ill. While he has
medical coverage in the US, he has expressed a desire to return to his
hometown to be closer to the rest of his family. His Medical needs
would be high. Does anyone know if he would be admitted into the
Canadian Medical system to continue his medical coverage? He worked
in Canada for over 20 years before moving to the US, where he worked
for another 20 years or so. He is current receiving US social
security.
Thank you all for any assistance you may provide me.
Merry Christmas,
G.

Depending upon the province it may take 3 months to start medical coverage.

What Jim said but to clarify that because he is a Canadian Citizen he can
always return to Canada whenever he likes and always has the rights of a
Canadian Citizen in Canada so he cannot be denied health care as there is no
discrimination based on age or illness or wealth etc, there is no situation
like you egt with private companies where they declare they will not cover
"pre existing conditions" or decide your claims are too high and refuse to
renew your policy etc.

Good to know. Thank you both for the information. I will pass it
along to him. May make it easier for him to decide.
