It won't have done, because they don't ask about your criminal record when you enter Canada. But if you enter a country you're expected to abide by their entry laws/requirements and until he has rehab, he's inadmissible. You'd still have to apply for criminal rehab, it's specific to CIC so you need to go through them for it. He can apply once 5 years from the end of his sentence have passed (so Dec 2010). Not sure if him having entered Canada when he wasn't supposed to have done will cause issues though, may be worth a consultation with an immigration lawyer/consultant to check that out?
