Does being a student out of Canada count toward the 2/5 yr requirement?
Hello everybody,
I have heard that there are certain circumstances that one's time
outside Canada will count toward the 2/5 year presence rule and/or the
citizenship eligibility days.
Does the same thing apply to a person who wants to go to university in
the U.S? Will that be only for the 2/5 rule or also for citizenship?
Thanks
George

No definitely on the second one which is a change from the old
Immigration Act, however there are circumstances when time outside of
Canada will count towards the 2/5 rule. This does not/not apply to
citizenship but time spend outside of Canada working for a Canadian
company can count towards the 2/5 and time spent accompanying a
Canadian spouse outside of Canda are acceptable absences from Canada
and count towards the 2/5 rule.
