Default A Discussion for TWP applicants/holders

Hello,

As the title says, I felt perhaps we should discuss a few things without PR holders etc (who are more secure and have access to benefits if laid off), in regard to all the rumours about a possible Canadian recession, more on the back of oil and gas price falls than anything else (as TWP we are without doubt the most vulnerable).

I am in the West, and at the moment am awaiting a permit renewal, but also half expecting at anytime the announcement that someone needing work laid off in the oil patch has took my job (my post has been advertised ongoing since last Sept), and thus my TWP post. My employer has made it plain, that before one Canadian can have their hours cut or be laid off then a TWP must be let go by law....comforting

Once I'm back at work no vacancies would be posted or recruitment for my post, so no one can take my job..if that makes sense?

Thankfully at present, natural wastage is covering the slack, horrible to say but when someone quits/gets fired from the company I'm happy. While I'm getting married in the winter, so will be out of all this in 18 months or so, I need my TWP to register for Provincial Health, re-new drivers licence, etc etc....plus of course to stay in Canada and work and earn a wage until PR comes!

What are other TWP holders thoughts, worries etc at this vulnerable time?
