Default Difficulty choosing NOC for FSW

Hi All, first post here and I must say this is a great forum, lots of useful resources about immigration.

I am looking to apply for FSW before they switch to express entry in 2015, I have done my research but I am stuck on the NOC part.

My job is across different disciplines so I have difficulty choosing the correct NOC. I heard to claim the work experience it must match at least 80% of a particular NOC, which I would struggle with my job.

Just as a brief description, my job involves:
Preparing reports that are sent to central bank to comply with regulatory requirements. (NOC 1111 or 1114)

Provide oversight to ensure traders comply with government regulations and company policies at all times (NOC 1114)

Prepare daily reports to analyse the risk profile of a portfolio (NOC 1112)

Understand the drivers for each portfolio and provide daily commentary to management (NOC 1112)

Maintain data integrity in risk systems (NOC 1114?)

I have tried emailing nrsdc but they haven't replied after a week, not sure what my next step should be. Can anyone provide some guidance in this situation?

Thanks for reading this post and glad to have joined this forum

Hey FL, thanks for the quick reply.

I did look at NOC 4162, however I do not perform any of the main duties on that page. That NOC is more for economist and I am not in that team.

Can I apply under NOC 4162 purely based on job title?

Thanks Amy, I would do as you suggested, much appreciated.

Do you have any recommendation on what should be included in the work experience letter? Should I put more emphasis on the trading/investment side?

Looks like so far 292 applications has been received for 1112, hopefully there are still spots left when I apply. Still waiting for the ECA result from WES.

Hi Amy, many thanks for your help. I thought more about it today and got a small question.

Would it work if I apply through NOC 1111? As mentioned in OP, my job responsibility is mainly around reporting to management on risk and P&L (profit and loss) and external reporting to regulators and prepare some numbers for financial reports.

The reason I ask is I obtained Chartered Accountant designation in my home country and I met the work experience requirement for CA based on my current job. So at least the CA institute here thinks my job is closely related to accounting. (In case it makes any difference, the institute here have an agreement with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants so I can become CA in Canada)

I am a bit concerned about the cap for 1112, so far they are still processing the May applications and it is already near 300 application out of 1000 for the year. Given my application won't be ready until September, I have a feeling I won't make the cap for 1112.

Really appreciate your feedback so far, I am quite nervous given I already spent a lot of money on this application so the stakes are high.

Would anyone be able to give an example of a reference letter related to NOC 1112 or 1114?

I emailed HRSDC and they actually said my job is NOC 1114...., should I trust their advice or am I better off going with NOC 1112?

Thanks for the help

Question Re: Difficulty choosing NOC for FSW

Hi

I have a similar issue to the above problem for which i need your help.

my work experience is in the banking field. it is divided in to two part.

one falls in the NOC 1212. As Assistant manager Credit which is very close to credit supervisor (80% same as per NOC description) which is from 2006 to 2010.

the other category in which I fall in is NOC 1114. currently i am working as senior Compliance officer where i match in one description (Financial examiners and inspectors ) "ensure compliance with governing legislation and regulations".

the Question is can i apply under any one of the NOC (1212 or 1114) or i have to apply for the current job experience (1114).

Hi Dansih

Trust you are keeping good. Even I am in the same position.

I am a Company Secretary and have more than 4 years of compliance experience in Financial Services Industry in India. I was also wondering whether I could apply for PR under NOC 1114.

Did you get any further information on the same. It would be a pleasure to get in touch with you to discuss the same.

Thank You
Giri

hi spider_web

i was reading your comments and wanted to check if you did finally apply for NOC 1114?

in my case, i do the work of a 'securities underwriter' but there is only 1 duty (one sentence) mentioned on the hrsdc website for this title. my dilemma is : a) is there any place / source to verify what job duties is the VO 'expecting' for this title or b) do i just state all duties i do in my current job and hope that it satisfies the VO

appreciate your feedback. any other forum members please do reply if you have any suggestions. thanks for your time.

Hi everyone. I am new here but echo spider_Web in that this is a really helpful forum and so polite!

I really hope you can help me too as time is running so short.

Basically I work for a major utility company here designing connections into the electricity network - I assess costs, design the connection, liaise with customers etc. I have looked for like jobs in Canada and the job description would be electrical technician, power distribution which is NOC 2241. Frustratingly, however, the duties under NOC 2241 bear absolutely no resemblance to my job and therefore my employer letter nor do they match real time vacancies for that job which do match my job here in the UK. Going on description alone, my job seems to be an estimator specialising in electricity NOC 2234 but I am worried on the basis of 3 things: 1. 2234 seems to be for ppl employed by contractors not utility companies, 2. my diplomas etc are in electrical not quantity surveying which does fit 2241 and not 2234 and 3. my wife will kill me if I get it wrong! Lol! Any advice you could give would be great as I expect to receive the CES report next week fingers crossed and then it's do or die on the application submission. Had all sorts of fun and games trying to get the bank transfer in dollars and I thought that and the photos were going to be the trickiest parts.....the NOC conundrum has proven me wrong though!

Ps Spoke to Brazolot initially who went straight to 2241 based on job title alone and didn't even mention 2234 - although at that stage I didn't know what the NOC duties were - but they wanted £5k on top of all fees to do it for us and we just can't afford that - beginning to wish me could now!

Thanks in advance

Best wishes

Torob
