Default Dependent Visa

Hi guys,

I have a question regarding dependent visa. I am studying in Canada and I want to bring my husband to Canada. As per the CIC website international students can bring their spouse to Canada. But he will get a work permit of particular time frame( i.e till my study permit expires). My question is, what is the next step after his open work permit expires? Is there a way to renew the work permit?

My second question is: My husband is going to apply through express entry. For instance, after he comes here on dependent visa(i.e open work permit) and if he gets a job, can that offer letter be used for the express entry process?

Please guys help me out.

Thanks in advance.

No, he can't renew it. His SOWP will be linked solely to your study permit, so the moment that ends his does too. He might be eligible for a BOWP depending on what stage your PR app is at.

When does your study permit end?

Not unless he's got a LMIA or PNP nomination too - only job offers supported by a LMIA or PNP cert count as 'arranged employment' for EE.

HTH.

Thank you for your reply. My study permit is ending in July 2016.

So, does it mean that if he doesn't get any appropriate job, he has to leave Canada when my study permit ends?

He could stay as a visitor if he doesn't get another work permit and providing his passport is not close to expiring.
