Damascus, Syria Timelines
We are waiting to hear from the Canadian Embassy in Damascus. Our
timeline has now reached about 7 months in the Family Class category.
We last had a letter from Damascus requesting documents back in late
September of 2003. Can anyone share any news or information they may
be aware of regarding processing times through this Visa post in
Syria? We are hopeful it would be processed under the 1 year mark.
Much appreciated for any comments you may have.

Re: Damascus, Syria Timelines
There are 2 different categories in Family class - and they are processed
with different priority.
1. Spouse, Common-Law or Conjugal Partner and Dependent Children -
processing time anywhere between 10 and 20+ months in Damascus
2. Parents, Grandparents, Adopted Children and Other Relatives - processing
time anywhere between 2.5 and 4+ years in Damascus

Re: Damascus, Syria Timelines
Thank you Andrew for your valued information! We applied in the
Conjugal Partner category, and are of the understanding that this
category, along with Spouse and Common-Law, are treated with priority,
ideally processed in 8 to 12 months, provided Right of Landing
Fee(which can speed up the process by up to two months I have read in
material from CIC) and medicals are submitted with the joint
application. I would think applications for Spouse and Common-Law, if
documented properly and thoroughly, may be processed somewhat quicker,
just because the variables involved in assessment are not as many as
those variables in a Conjugal relationship? As well, other factors, as
you have mentioned before include the number of countries the
applicant for Permanent resident has resided in(Background checks) and
the case load of each particular Visa office abroad, must be
considered when arriving at the length of time needed to process each
case. I am surmising this from what I have read on the overseas Visa
officer's manual on the internet and other articles I have come
across. Once again, my gratitude to you for taking the time to read
and offer your answers and comments, which are based on experience and
knowledge you have gathered in your profession and personal efforts.
