Default COPR and Passport Renewal

I have received a email from the Canadian embassy in London stating my application has reached the final stage of processing. Before COPR can be issued they require photocopy of all my passport pages and two passport photos(Canadian style) within 30 days.

My question is.. my passport is due to expire next August(2013) so I thought perhaps it best to renew my passport.
If I renew my passport and send the new version would this pose a problem as it does not match the copy I sent with my original application?

Would sending a copy of my new passport and old passport be a better option? (im more drawn to doing this).

Thoughts?

Sorry I forgot to add.
Supposing if I do not renew my passport and send the old one.
If I renew my passport next year, will this affect my COPR on my old passport(ie will I need to carry my old passport with my new one if leave I re-enter Canada?).

No, since you will be issued a PR card to prove status. Your COPR you put away in a safe place as you will need for citizenship and OAS in the future once you have your PR card.

For COPR your passport has to be valid for at least 12 months from the date of your medicals. Congrats too
