Hello

Can anyone tell me roughly how long it takes for an application for immigration to Canada to go through from start to finish.

I will be starting my application process in December of this year, hopefully in readiness for or just after my wedding date of June 2002 when I will be marrying a Canadian who lives in Ontario.

Many thanks

You didn't tell us what is your nationality, what category you will apply under, what
occupation, what is your country of residence (current and previous) and which visa
post you will submit your application to. Depending from all those factors (and few
more) the entire process may take anywhere from about 6 months to 3+ years.

Oops....apologies.

My nationality is British.
I'll be applying under Family Class.
My occupation is Administrator at a University.
My country of residence is Britain (past and present) and I'll be submitting my application to the Canadian Embassy in London UK. I guess that from there my application will be passed on to Missisauga (please excuse spelling) in Ontario.

Hope the info is helpful enough to obtain a more clear answer.

Many thanks Andrew.

If you are getting married in June 2002 and want to apply before that then you will
be applying as a fiancée. If this is the case than your Canadian fiancée must
initiate the process by applying in Canada to be approved as a sponsor of Family
Class member - this process may take anywhere from 8 to 16 weeks. After such
application is approved than you will submit your application to CHC London and your
application should be concluded in about 6 - 9 months (maybe less), providing that
there are no medical or other problems.
