comparative times
Dear all,
What with the documented difficulties with the conjugal class, my partner
and I (better start getting used to that word so I don't slip a
"girlfriend" into our application!) are in the thick of wondering which of
the following to do (I'm Canadian, we live together in the States and I'm
moving back to Montreal in July for a job):
a) have a quicky wedding asap, apply as married couple through Buffalo,
move to Canada together in July with her initially as a visitor.
b) have her move with me in July as a visitor, then apply inland as
common-law in October, at which point we'll have been living together for
a year.
Obviously the first option (assuming everything works out as expected)
will be faster. Sometimes I see people quoting current processing
times--how do you find these out? I would like to compare how long a
spousal application through Buffalo would be expected to take, versus a
common-law application inland. (Both of these would be for Quebec.)
My idea (which I can't remember whether I read somewhere, or just made up
myself) is that a married couple application through Buffalo would take
6-7 months. Is that about right? And if anyone has any good estimates,
could they mention whether that's until Acceptance In Principle, or until
right of landing?
Thanks -Jon

Re: comparative times
Jon;
In my humble opinion, processing through Buffalo is preferable after
marriage. Common law is too unpredictable in terms of time. Bufflao is fast
and predictable usually no more than 6 months. INland can take at least 12
months.
My 2 cents!
