Default Clarifying 2/5 rule (once and for all)

Dear Sir/Madam,

would like to clarify (once and for all) the current residency obligations. Recently received my PR VISA on July, 2003, have landed, but had to go back to my home country to clean some things up but planned to settle in Canada (for good) by Feb, 2004.

Having said this, this would not pose any problems of me losing my residency VISA right as in theory, I can stay outside of Canada for 3 years out of every 5 yr period. Is this assumption right..? And that the "old" rule of the need to stay in Canada for 6 months for every year no longer holds..?

many thanks.

Hope this would merit your most favorable attention.

br
Ricky.
