CanAm couple with permanent residencies in US and Canada?
I am a US citizen who married a Canadian in February 2002. US immigration
has kept my husband in Canada now over a year while we are going through
the process of getting him a US permanent resident visa.
We had started a small business together in the US, and later hoped to
expand it into Canada. We want to be able to work together on whatever
projects we start, and I am thinking I should be applying for a permanent
resident visa in Canada.
Currently, we intend to live in the US and make most of our money there,
but who knows what the future will bring. We want the flexibility of being
able to work together in either country.
Does anyone see any problems with me getting a permanent resident visa
for Canada when my husband is obtaining a permanent resident visa for the
US?
Will there be some unanticipated consequences. For example, would there
be tax consequences to Canada even if we spend all our time in the US and
all of our money came from our US business?

Lot of Canadian professionals (Doctors, nurses, engineers etc.) work and
live in United States because Canada is a socialist country where they are
taxed to death. I used to have a Canadian manager at IBM who chose to move
to USA permanently because he would be unemployed in where he was from.
