Is Canadian Citizenship possible for my wife?

I was just wondering if any of the experts out there know of any proposed changes to
citizenship rights for the spouses of Canadians?? My wife is Swiss and for the past 3
years we've been living in Europe. I know that Switzerland gives citizenship to
non-Swiss spouses after 7 years - even if the non-Swiss spouse lives outside of
Switzerland. Is there anything in the "works" for Canada to do something similar?
Second question: Is it possible for my spouse to apply for a PR from within Canada if
we were to eventually settle in Canada?
Thanks for any help

There is nothing even remotely similar to Swiss law here in Canada, not in the
current law and not in proposed so far laws. To be eligible to apply for Canadian
citizenship person must be a Canadian PR first and accumulate 1,095 days of residence
in Canada within 4 years preceding citizenship application. It doesn't matter if such
PR is a spouse of Canadian citizen.
In respect to your second question - yes, the current law allows for spousal
sponsorship application to be filed from within Canada.

As a Canadian Citozen you can start the sponsorship process while you are still in
Switzerland. It will save you many headaches after you arrive. Check out
www.cic.gc.ca look for aplications.
