I've spoken to City Visas trading name of Clear vision operations Ltd. They would like to charge me £1800 for getting a visa sorted this surely can't be right

Depends, what kind of visa application is it? If it's for PR, that's actually incredibly cheap.

Although I would very strongly suggest you search the forum for City Visas before parting with any money!

If you really need to use an immigration consultant (are you sure you do, most on here do it themselves), then make sure they are recommend and licensed.

They cannot 'sort it' either. They can only fill in the forms and submit them for you and give an opinion. Paying someone to fill in the forms gives no real advantage over doing it yourself if you can fill in forms and read instructions (usually the other way round).
