Canada revoking immigration!!!
Hi All,
Too bad but might be true. One of my uncles knows lots of people in CIC office in Calgary. He has come to know from some insider that revoking immigration altogether is on the cards. Canada might put an end to skilled class immigration altogether by this year end and no more applications under skilled class will be accepted after 31st Dec, 2003 if this thing comes into effect.
I don't know how far its true but its too scary.
Has anybody else also heard somehting of this sort?
Experts please comment.
Yours faithfully

I don't really know how Canada as a country could survive without
immigration. Canada grows by immigration, not the birth rate... would seem
highly unlikely if they pulled out of immigration of skilled workers... very
odd.

Considering such a move would require a move by parliament, and there is
no such bill currently proposed, this is just anti-immigration
sentiment.

Re: Canada revoking immigration!!!
Doing so would fly completely in the face of all stated CIC goals and indeed
the whole purpose of change in the law that took over five years to
fruition.
Certainly, I have not heard of such a thing.
What they may be taliking about is that after 31 DEC 2003, permanent
residents will need the PR card to travel to Canada. Without it, they would
be in a pickle to prove they belong here.

This is not true. If you go to www.cic.gc.ca you can find the Immigration plan for 2003/2004 and 2005/2006. It clearly states that 60% of immigrants in 2003/2004 will be skilled workers.
