Default Can you notorise a letter yourself?

Hi there, we have been advised to get a letter notorised by a solicitor confirming that my children have not been in contact with their dad for a few years and I have no idea how to contact him! Do I have to go to a solicitors to get them to do it for me or can I do it myself? and get it stamped by a solicitor? If yes, what do I need to put in the letter? Hope someone can help?

Maybe you need an affidavit from the solicitor (UK term, not sure what it is called abroad). This is a letter that you write and they witness it and sign/stamp it.

We recently purchased a property in Florida and we had to have docs notarised. I thought that a police officer or civil servant etc could do this for us but we had to go to the office and have all these docs signed in blue, in a specific way eg you had to sign your full name and then they put the red seal on them. If you google Notary this should give you a list of solicitors in your area that specialise...whatever you do dont attemp to cut corners on this as its really important. I know ours was a property and is totally different but I beleive the USA and Canada are quite specific about these docs.

Im sure the Notary will advise you what needs to go in the letter.

I hope you get this sorted

Hi JW,

i recently had to get my declaration done for my police checks for my nurses registration in BC. the solicitor needs to deal with 'notary public' issues, i had to repeat a statement after him, he watched me sign it and then he signed it, put a red rubber seal on it and put it under a 'press' which raises his information on the seal. i had to take a utility bill from my current address and my passport which they photocopied.

not all solicitors provide this service but the receptionist was very helpful and informed me exactly what was required by myself to take. try and find a few who provide the service you require, explain exactly what you require, im sure you can get the advice you require including what should go into the letter/ declaration.

just so that you know it cost me £40 to get my 1 document notarised. i scanned it to my computer for future reference.

good luck
k

no, you can not notorise a document yourself.....the UK has very different rules on this and i notice that the original poster is in the UK......

you have to realise that what one country does is not what that country MIGHT accept from another country......

in the UK, you have to have documents notorised by a notary public and i would suggest that you contact your nearest one.....ask your solicitor if he is/or knows of a notary public, or check out yellow pages, or get in contact with the notary public society in london.

http://www.thenotariessociety.org.uk/

do it once and do it right.....write down roughly what you wish to be said and ask your solicitor to do it again in 'legal jargon' then get it notorised....it'll cost very little in real terms......i got 8 documents notorised and it cost me £141 which inc. vat......i WAS asked for a couple of documents at the POE (our son is adopted!!!) and because they were notorised, it was all okay....

good luck
