Default Can i study while on a IEC working holiday visa?

Hello,
I have completed my application and have been accepted onto the IEC program (received letter of acceptance) with the intention of entering Canada in a couple of months time with a working holiday visa. I am considering the possibility of studying while i am there either part-time of full time. Does anyone know if i am aloud to do so as i have not been able to find much information on this elsewhere. I should mention that i have read somewhere that study of under 6 months is aloud. Can anyone confirm this to be true? Though i would ideally like to study for a period longer than 6 months - would this be possible.

Thanks for anyone taking the time to answer my questions.

You recall correctly that a study permit is not required for courses of < 6 months:
I want to study in Canada for less than six months. Do I need a study permit?

> 6 months, you would need a permit.

HTH.

The challenge with studying might be some of the challenges that colleges have for International students which you would still be classified as so hence very high international fees. Depends really what you intend studying whether a post grad type of diploma or some sort of recreational evening class. Some colleges even ask for an English language assessment as per Centennial for example in Toronto International Admissions | How to Apply As said for courses longer than 6 months you need a study visa else on an IEC technically you could be classed as breaking the IEC terms.

Thanks for the advice. Can you hold a study permit and a working holiday visa at the same time? Or would i have to surrender my working holiday visa for study permit?

Yes you can hold both:

Can I hold a study permit and a work permit at the same time under International Experience Canada (IEC)?

The main provisions for a study permit would still be a course offer from a college on the designated list and demonstration of funds for the fees and living expenses. Seems for courses 6 months or less no study permit required but still assume must be on designated college list. Not sure what anyone learns on a 6 month or less course but hey. Determine your eligibility – Study in Canada This answer specific to IEC and courses 6 months or less http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcen...asp?q=931&t=25
